Founded in spring 2017 in Milan (IT), PIRANHA is conceived as a collective, expandable project, whose dimensions have varied from duo to quartet. Since 2019 the prevailing line-up is the trio. The music offers a multifaceted yet balanced sound through a blend of different styles as jazz, chamber music, extra European sound and minimalism. The trio is proud to invite the listener to enter and participate into its “sound laboratory”, in which different kinds of propulsions can be experienced. The album contains episodes of high energy as moments of pure intimacy. All the artists contribute to enrich the spectrum of sounds through the possibility of playing multiple instruments. Every musician in fact alternates two instruments; in this case clarinet-bass clarinet, piano-octatrack, drums-vibraphone. The union of these particular timbres and unreleased compositions written by each member allows PIRANHA to offer a rare musical gem.
PIRANHA performed at Parma Jazz Frontiere Festival 2020 as the trio of the Giorgio Gaslini 2020 International Award Winner Federico Calcagno.
